The works include rehabilitation and reinforcement of the Vålereng tunnel on the E6 in Oslo.
The tunnel was opened for traffic in 1987 and 1989. The tunnel was partially rehabilitated in 2001-2003. ADT (Average annual daily traffic): 56 000, The tunnel is an approx. 820 m long (twin tunnel), without on or off ramps. Varies from 2 — 3 lanes. Southbound there is an unused and closed ramp lane. The tunnel is primarily a rock tunnel, with a concrete part to the north and some at the southern end. There is a lot of crossing railway infrastructure in the area.
The work in the tunnel includes 2 main parts:
— reinforcement in the southern end of the tunnel for approx. 40 m in both tunnel directions, as well as in the unused ramp lane,
— rehabilitation of the tunnel, with replacement of technical equipment, construction of 2 new mechanical rooms, construction of a pumping station and sedimentation basin for management of tunnel wash water, traffic safety measures, block leaks, fire prevention and concrete rehabilitation.
The works are planned to be carried out with complete closure of one lane at a time in the tunnel and some night works.

The tunnel opened the northbound lane in 1987 and the southbound lane in 1989, and currently has an ADT of approx: 56 000. To the south, the tunnel ends on Lodalsbrua [Lodals bridge], that is further connected to Ekebergtunnelen [the Ekeberg tunnel], that is part of the Operatunnelen [the Opera tunnel]. In the north, the tunnel goes into the open air at Etterstad.

The tunnel was rehabilitated in 2001 — 2003, with new concrete elements, PE foam sheets and shotcrete. The northern part of the southbound lane will also be expanded in connection with these works.
The Vålereng tunnel is an approx. 820 metre long twin tunnel, without on or off ramps In the southbound direction there is primarily 2 lanes, apart from approx. 100 metres of the northern end, where it was expanded to 3 lanes in the early 2000s. Northbound there are 3 lanes that run the length of the tunnel. Southbound there is an unused and closed ramp lane in the direction of Galgeberg.
