The project has come about because Oslo Municipality must strengthen its general water supply with better reserve and stand-by water supply, and facilitate for significant population growth in the city in the coming years. The water supply in Oslo does not fulfil the requirements in the Drinking Water Regulations as regards reserve water capacity.
