The harbour in Hovden is well shielded and it is a short distance to fishing grounds. The fishery company Hovden Fiskeindustri AS is an active company that provides services related to the reception of fish in Hovden. The existing conditions at the harbour prevent the company from receiving fish from the total fish supply from larger coast vessels. The reason for this is that the seaward approach lack sufficient depth.
Consequently a deepening of the seaward approach is required. The seaward approach must be deepened down to minus five metres. This will enable larger vessels of approx. 40 metres to call at Hovden. The deepening will result in a manoeuvre area of approx. 90 metres in the harbour.
At present, the seaward approach at the Hovden harbour has a minimum depth of 3.2 metres. However, the remaining harbour basin has an adequate depth. The deepening of the seaward approach down to minus five metres means that the harbour can receive larger and more deep-draught vessels.

The harbour shall be deepened down to a total of minus 5.3 metres which means that 10 638 m³ of the basic compact masses in the harbour shall be removed and deposited in a jetty inside the harbour. These masses contains approx. 4 500 m³ rock. From previously executed sub-surface surveys in the basin the masses are expected to be easy to dredge with most types of good dredging equipment with fixed arms. However, at the seaward approach there is a short distance to rock, and several locations have rocks above a contour line minus 5.3The jetty must be constructed with approx. 27 000 m³ masses that are suitable for this purpose and collected from a local quarry. Approx. one tonnes of barriers must be blasted in order to create the top layer of the jetty.12 500 000
