The harbour in Hovden is well shielded and it is a short distance to fishing grounds. The fishery company Hovden Fiskeindustri AS is an active company that provides services related to the reception of fish in Hovden. The existing conditions at the harbour prevent the company from receiving fish from the total fish supply from larger coast vessels. The reason for this is that the seaward approach lack sufficient depth.

Kystverket (hereafter NCA) is the project manager and developer of the project "Clean Harstad Harbour". The project shall further develop a fairway in Harstadbotn, and environmentally clear the sludge by dredging and capping. The masses from the clearing shall be placed in a waterside depot by Seljestad.

2011-02-24Lepsøyrevet – Haram municipality - deepening (Kystverket Nordland)
Deepening of the fairway through Lepsøyrevet. The new fairway shall be deepened down to contour line -11, 3 related to chart null in a width of 100 m and a total length of 1 945 m. It is estimated that approx. 476 000 fm3 glacial masses shall be removed.
