Interpretation services in Arendal municipality

Arendal kommune

Arendal municipality, henceforth referred to as the Awarding Authority, is the capitol of Aust-Agder County and has approx. 43 000 inhabitants. Numbers from Statistics Norway shows that approx. 11 % of the population are immigrants and children of immigrants. 5 % are from the EEA, North America, Oceania, and 5, 2 % from Europe, EEA not included, Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
The recent years approx. 1 200 annual interpretation assignments within municipal activities have been implemented. The following municipal activities require interpreters: maternal and child health centres, family doctors, child welfare, adult education, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service, centres for battered women, accident and emergency units, schools, nursery schools, sheltered institutions, etc.
The Awarding Authority requests interpretation services characterised by quality, flexibility and efficiency. In 2011-2012 the following languages have been in most demand: Persian, Arabian, Somalian, Tigrinja, Soranî/Kurdish, Farsi, Polish, Russian, and Dari.
In 2011-2012 the following languages have been subject to limited demand: Albanese, Amharic, Bosnian, Burmese, English, French, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Thai, and Vietnamese. The requirements for languages are changing in relation to alterations in the global refugee situation and the migration pattern in general.
The Awarding Authority' different activities have various requirements in relation to interpretation methods (telephone, monitor, attendance and written translation). In some cases emergency assignments, in and outside normal working hours (08:00-16:00) may be required. Administrative routines in connection with booking an interpreter must be easy for the Awarding Authority's units.
