The Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI), established in 2015, is a political initiative and a multi-donor trust fund under the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office. CAFI's goal is to assist partner countries in reducing emissions from forests and at the same time improve the living conditions for the local population. CAFI as a political initiative consists of six Central African partner countries and nine donor countries. The CAFI fund has grown significantly since its creation. With this growth, several challenges have been identified, which may require a different set-up than the current model. One important challenge is the mobilization of private capital. The purpose of this study is to analyze CAFI's objectives in light of identified challenges and make clear recommendations for changes and adjustments in the institutional set-up. The consultants must develop four different options in which the fund can be organized, including adjustments to current models.
