The regional monitoring of insects in 2021 will obtain knowledge on the regional status and changes in the entire insect diversity in two terrestrial ecosystems: forests and semi-natural land. The monitoring will be carried out in the Østlandet region. The programme has the following main aims:
— the establishment of minimum 20 new monitoring areas; at least 10 areas in forests and at least 10 areas in semi-natural land,
— gather relevant explanation variables in each of the established areas,
— estimate relevant management response variables for insects,
— estimate central biodiversity indexes based on the gathered data,
— further develop environment DNA as an identification tool and validate the results against the traditional taxonomy method,
— update established protocols and guidelines that are required for monitoring insects on a regional and national scale.
