The Norwegian Customs has considerable challenge in controlling smuggling drugs and other goods that are hidden in cavities in vehicles, aircraft, boats, and in other objects, (e.g., tins). An efficient check of all such cavities by manual inspection methods is very time consuming and resource demanding. The Norwegian Customs has plans to use hand held x-ray apparatuses for different inspection assignments and in different locations in Norway.
The available budget resources and the experienced usefulness will, to a large degree, be decisive for the total spread. As a start, the plan is to use hand held x-ray apparatuses for the following inspections:
— inspection of refrigeration containers, vessels, and leisure boats,
— inspection of ferry traffic, trailer traffic, and other large vessel traffic,
— inspection of vehicles on roads, primarily passenger cars and other smaller vehicles,
— inspection of aircraft and small aircraft,
— inspection of goods (general cargo/pallet goods).
