Statens vegvesen Drift og vedlikehold Øst (the Norwegian Public Roads Administration Operations and Maintenance East) wants to enter into a contract that covers replacement of guardrails over long stretches and new erection of guardrails on European and National Roads in the area Oslo and Viken in 2021 and 2022.
The geographical area have the following limitations:
In Buskerud to and including Hønefoss
In Akershus up until Gjelleråsen, Gjerdrum and to the eastern border of Innlandet.
In Østfold up until the Swedish border.
The work will be performed along all relevant stretches in the above-named area.
The contract applies for the period 2021 from the contract signing date until 31 December 2022, with an option to extend for 2 years.

The work will be performed along all relevant stretches in the above-named area.
The contract applies for the period 2021 from the contract signing date until 31 December 2022, with an option to extend for 2 years.
The works include:
— replacement of the existing steel guardrail and installation of new guardrail including railing transitions, end terminations and shoring,
— Replacement of the existing concrete guardrail and establishment of new concrete guardrail.
In minor scope.
— replacement of the existing wire guardrail and establishment of new guardrail, in minor scope,
— establishment of multiple new emergency openings/operational openings in the middle section of some of the existing stretches,
— establishment of motorcycle guardrail brace to protect motorcyclists,
— replacement of bridge guardrail, may be relevant in minor scope,
— detailed engineering design and detailed planning of above named assignments. Refer to chapter D1 Process 78.251 — Engineering Design. Guardrail type will be agreed in consultation with the builder,
— detailed engineering design will require review.
The anticipated scope per year is NOK 50 million — NOK 60 million excluding VAT. The contractor must evaluate necessary resources/number of crews required to be able to achieve the planned turnover for the contract and complete the assignment quickly and efficiently in an environmentally friendly manner. Good plans, logistics and sufficient resources with competence and experience are absolutely crucial.

The guardrail works primarily take place on high-traffic road networks, and the majority of the work must therefore be expected to take place at night. Roadworks warnings must set time limits and guidelines for the work. In the roadworks notifications, both at night and during the day, the use of a ranger vehicle, longitudinal and transverse securing and warning signs must be anticipated in accordance with the roadwork notification plan. Some circumstances will require manual routing.
