Environmental Poisons in the Norwegian Coastal Areas 2021-2025

The intention of this environmental monitoring programme is to contribute to stopping the use and emissions of substances that are harmful to health and the environment. The programme will also contribute to fulfilling the monitoring requirements in the Water Directive. The assignment involves taking samples, analysing environmental poisons and reporting the results. The programme has the following goals and shall:
— measure levels of a selection of environmental poisons in biota along the Norwegian coast,
— assess bio-accumulation of prioritised environmental poisons in biota near the coast,
— give a basis for assessing whether measures for environmental poisons have had the desired effect,
— give a basis for assessing the need for further measures against substance that are harmful to health and the environment,
— describe the risk that environmental poisons are for biota in areas close to the coast - contribute with monitoring data that is reported in an international cooperation that Norway is a part of.
