A rinsing system for planes, ‘bird bath’, will be established on of the runways at Evenes Air Base. The function of the system is to wash away corrosive salts from planes after flying at low elevation above salt-water. Primarily this will apply to P-8A but the facility will also be able to be used for other types of planes. Planes will be able to taxi through the bird bath right after landing. Clean water will be used and the system will be designed so that used water is collected, purified and used again. All parts of installations on/by the runway must be established in the ground.
The anticipated system functionality requirements are:
— entire plane body must be rinsed;
— clean water will be used;
— the system will be used down to +4 degrees Celsius;
— it must be possible to process 3 P-8As per hour and they should be able to be processed continuously.
