This research project will map and analyse how conditions for local politicians are experienced by today's local politicians. A survey of subjective opinions can be combined with more objective goals. The aim of the survey is to highlight the conditions — and the sum of different conditions — that are important for local politicians' motivation and recruitment, and their willingness to stand for re-election. In particular the survey must also give insight into the consequences of hateful remarks and threats to local politicians, which can form the basis for action-orientated measures to prevent and deal with hateful remarks.
The following main themes must be highlighted:
— local politicians' hours and working conditions (including financial remuneration, training and help in the post, support in contentious matters, etc.),
— local politicians' role and room for action,
— local politicians' influence,
— particular emphasis on local politicians' experience of hateful remarks and threats, and their assessments of consequences.
