In 2008 the Ministry of Education and Research gave the Directorate the task of establishing school manager training for headteachers and other school managers who lack such training[1]. An evaluation of the 5 first years of the headteacher training (2009-2014) showed that the participants were very pleased with the headteacher training, and the Ministry of Education and Research decided that the headteacher training was to be continued[2]. At the start-up of the headteacher training, an important part of the task was to clarify expectations and requirements to headteachers through preparing a framework for the content of the headteacher training. This framework has been the basis for headteacher training and was last revised in its continuation in 2014. The headteacher training has been successful since its start-up in 2009. Evaluations of the headteacher training show that participants are very satisfied with the training and find it relevant. Click here https://permalink.mercell.com/106624156.aspx

The national headteacher training will now be continued for a new five year period, from 2020 — 2025. The headteacher training will mainly be continued with the content and form that it has had previously, but with some changes based on an evaluation of the headteacher training, new experiences and new knowledge within school manager training, and, not least, the fact that the situation and challenges faced by school managers has changed somewhat in the last 5 years. The most important changes we would like to achieve with the new headteacher training are:

The most important changes we would like to achieve with the new headteacher training are:
— greater focus on new challenges that most school managers and schools face,
— better follow-up and facilitation of learning activities between gatherings,
— better facilitation for sharing experiences and learning between participants,
— better involvement of school owners and the participants' organisations. At the same time, the ambition level is increased as regards the quality of the headteacher training and the development of practice.
