The Norwegian National Rail Administration has recently carried out reviews of technical systems for axel loads up of to 40 tons with line loads of up to 16 tons on the Ofot railway. The studies show the proposed systems for both new infrastructure and for upgrading the existing railway. The Norwegian National Rail Administration will establish a test arena for testing track systems up to 40 tons as a continuation of these R&D projects. The site shall also be able to be used for testing systems for normal axel loads of up to 25 tons. In order to improve this test site, we are announcing this assignment for the design of a complete test arena. We would like proposals for both the content and design of a test arena for testing components and complete superstructure constructions, both in the field and in the laboratory.

The Norwegian National Rail Administration would like proposals for the design of a complete test arena with a view to heavy axel loads. Proposals shall be prepared for the content and design of the test arena that include both testing in the field and in the laboratory as regards the following needs and which installations are required for this:— Track constructions and superstructure components for heavy axel loads. Recommended systems and components from the mentioned reviews will be relevant to test, but it must not be limited to this. It shall be possible to test other types of constructions and components.— Track constructions and superstructure components for ‘normal’ loads, i.e. axel loads of up to 25 tons and different speeds.— Checks of track forces from rolling stock.The list is not exhaustive and the contracting authority must itself assess what conditions are relevant to examine.
