The procurement includes an x-ray ‘high flux’ source. The source shall be used for providing radiation for a number of material science and physical experiments in a research laboratory at a university.
The source will primarily be used for spreading and diffraction experiments, in order to characterise how the structure function in both organic and inorganic materials, both in natural condition and for analysing static material and structure as a reaction on different external loads/fields.
The source shall first and foremost function as a part of user accessible multi-use spreading set-up, an important part of the National x-ray laboratories, and secondly function as a test bench for more physics oriented experiments. The set-up must therefore comply with rather versatile requirements for selection size/weight, sample compound, spatial liquidation and testing field of vision. ‘In situ’ experiments, including non-ambient atmospheres and temperatures, and/or special rigs are assumed.
Some scenarios for the intended ‘standard’ use of source includes:
— High flux studies of weakly spreading organic and biologic materials, usually polymers, in small and/or wide-angle spreading geometry;
— Radiography and tomography experiments, complementary to the Contracting Authority's Nikon high energy tomographs;
— ‘In situ’ studies that requires high intensity for sufficient temporal resolution;
— It is very important the instrument is easy to operate, also for students and external users. The maintenance shall be uncomplicated and it shall be stable over long operation intervals — also after longer periods without being used.
