Follow-up evaluation of ‘Science and Mathematics municipalities’

The main measure in the national strategy for Science and Mathematics in kindergarten and primary and secondary education and training (‘Tett på realfag’ 2015-2019) is the establishment of Science and Mathematics municipalities. The municipalities shall develop a local strategy to improve children's and students' competence and results in Science and Mathematics, from kindergarten to completed primary and secondary education. The municipalities will be financially granted to establish and co-ordinate local networks for Science and Mathematics topics for teachers in kindergartens and schools. A local strategy shall include measures that correspond with the areas the municipality has defined as challenges. Both the 34 first Science and Mathematics municipalities as well as the newly recruited municipalities will be followed-up by an evaluation during the school year 2016-2017. The objective of the research assignment is to obtain an external evaluation of the measures in the Science and Mathematics municipalities and how they follow-up their own results. The results from the evaluation will be used to improve measures and to follow-up the municipalities. Research competence in Science and/or Mathematics subjects' didactics and in social science methods is relevant for the assignment.
