The Department of Medical Microbiology (AMM) receives approx. 20 000 samples every year (equivalent to 60 000 analysis results) to test for Chlamydia trachomatis. A substantial and increasing proportion of these samples are also tested for Mycoplasma genitalium, and we are also receiving an increasing number of requests to test for Neisseria gonorrhoeae using gene technology methods. Three different PCR methods are currently used to test for these agents. This is resource-intensive and presents us with logistical challenges which we want to overcome. We are therefore interested in including all these tests in a single run (multiplex assay) in order to rationalise and streamline our diagnostics for these agents.
