The IMR needs a new lease agreement with a supplier to provide satellite communication solutions to our vessels. We own and operate six research vessels, four of which are ocean-going, and it is for the that the Agreement concerns. In addition, we have two vessels under construction, New Dr. Fridtjof Nansen and the Crown Prince Haakon. The New Dr. Fridtjof Nansen is scheduled for completion in August 2016, and the Crown Prince Haakon is scheduled for completion in August 2017. Both have prepared space for mounting the antenna as well as equipment below deck. Delivery of equipment for each of these two vessels will be agreed upon separately.
The Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, which is currently operational, will probably be phased out when the New Dr. Fridtjof Nansen is delivered, but it is also possible that it will replace the Håkon Mosby in the summer of 2016.
It is necessary to have a solution in which we are linked to the IMR internal operational network via satellite transmission. At present the telephone system is connected to the Institute's telephone central via a Media Gateway. We also need a TV solution, either through a combined antenna or separate antenna. One challenge our vessels' have is the limited space available for installation of the equipment, particularly in the smallest [vessels].
At the present time, we have relatively old equipment on all our vessels, and new antennas and installations under the deck are planned to be located where the old ones have been installed.
