TP10487/12372 Project New National Museum, Contract K201 Alteration of infrastructure
The building site is situated in the centre of Oslo, between the Vestbane buildings and Aker brygge. This contract includes preparatory works prior to initiation of the actual building pit works. The works are mainly related to alteration of infrastructure of the two sections of the site referred to as 'Enga' and 'Sydhjørnet'. The works involve establishment of trenches, sheet piling, concrete structures in the ground, as well as coordination of owners of cables and pipes in the trenches and traffic management in immediate proximity to the works.
'Enga':
At 'Enga', the existing water, sewage and district heating systems shall be subject to temporary alterations while a pile foundation cast in situ trough is established. The trough shall be built in an enclosed sheet pile pit and gradually become a part of the finished building. When the trough is completed, the water, sewage and district heating system shall be re-established in the trough.
The existing road in 'Enga' works as an access to the company 'Pecunia's' parking facility below Dronning Mauds street. The parking facility comprises parking areas for passenger cars and has capacity for delivery of goods as well as a refuse storage area with containers. The access to the parking facility shall at all time be maintained while the alteration works are in progress, including works related to sheet piling and establishment of trough.
'Sydhjørnet':
At the 'Sydhjørnet' the contract includes alteration of water, sewage and electrical systems presently located in the area where the new National Museum shall be constructed.
The alteration works shall be partly executed close to the existing tram tracks and other existing infrastructure (water pipes, district heating pipes and telecommunication cables).
Proximity to tram and existing infrastructure implies challenges in relation to trench works and bracing system.
Bracing in order to safeguard adjacent structures is executed by drilling pipe sheet piles into the ground. Detection of cables and cautious excavation must be done prior to establishment of sheet piles and bracing. Flexibility in relation to solution must be expected. This means i.a. cautious excavation partly by excavators and partly by hand. Due to proximity to the sea, seawater will occure when excavation works are executed below sea level. The trams are to be rerouted to the outer tracks.
