The KULE project is to conduct a procurement process for solutions for clinical processes: electronic medical record/chart system, drug prescriptions, drugs administration and supply system for health trust within Helse Vest (the Western Norway Regional Health Authority). Private institutions contracted to Helse Vest may choose to join the agreement.
A future comprehensive solution shall contribute to
— a reduction in the number of preventable, undesired incidents involving drugs
— improved patient safety and quality of care
— support a comprehensive patient workflow
KULE is to acquire both software and hardware:
Software:
— Electronic medical record/chart system
— Electronic drugs supply system for the ordering and supply of drugs for a hospital unit from a hospital pharmacy/supplier.
Hardware:
— Automated dispensing cabinets
— devices for electronic identification of drugs, patient and personnel
— Drug dispensing trolleys and/or other equipment to facilitate distribution and dispensing of medicines and controlled drugs.
The objective is to integrate these components into a comprehensive solution, thereby providing a "closed loop" for improved patient safety.
