The LEXIN dictionaries are the first internet based dictionaries that are specially made for speakers of minority languages in Norway. The Norwegian government's aim with LEXIN is to develop and ensure broad access to user friendly illustrated dictionaries for speakers of minority languages with weak Norwegian ability. Traditional dictionaries are, according to many users, often too complicated. In addition many of the language groups in Norway are so small that they are not covered by the commercial dictionary market.
The Norwegian LEXIN project has been up and running since 1996 and is based on a Swedish project with the same name.
The LEXIN series includes, in addition, a multi-language interactive picture dictionary, Bildetema. Like LEXIN, this is based on a Swedish government project with the same name.
The aim of the procurement is continued operation, administration and further development of LEXIN, including Bildetema, from 1.1.2014, in accordance with the requirements in the tender documents and annexes. The contract shall be for 3 years, with automatic renewal for one year at a time, unless Utdanningsdirektoratet, 1.10. at the latest, notify that the contract will end at the end of the year. The contract can have a maximum length of eight years.
