Clinical Genetic Management and Information System

Helse Vest IKT AS

The Western Norway Regional Health Authority is to procure an electronic registration and monitoring system for use by the Division of Medical Services and the Centre for Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine in Helse Bergen health trust.
Centre for Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine treats an average of 2,500 patients a year, and so far examined and is responsible for following up nearly 7,000 families. The centre has approximately 100 employees, 30 of whom will be active users of the new system.
The purpose of the procurement of an electronic registration and monitoring system is to replace two non-integrated computer systems with one joint system for the registrations required in connection with the work with patients, persons at risk and their families, quality assurance work and research. The expectations of such an integrated joint system include the following benefits:
Quantitative benefits:
— Less manual registration work
— Quicker and easier access to necessary information
— Data become more easily available for patient treatment, family follow-up, reporting and research.
Qualitative benefits:
— Improved protection of privacy and improved control over sensitive information
— Improved quality of patient and family assessment, examination and treatment
— Improved possibilities for cooperation with the primary and secondary health service about implemented check-up schemes
— Systematic overview of implemented risk-reducing measures
— Improved quality of collected data.
