UFP30 Groundwater Monitoring

In connection with the construction of Farriseidet – Porsgrunn groundwater and pore pressure in rock and soil sites on the stretch over and around the route shall be monitored.
In addition to monitoring, the assignment also involves instrumentation, operation and maintenance of wells with instruments and the establishment and operation of the website for the measurement program. The assignment will start from the entry into the contract, planned for the first half of 2012, and the contract will be valid as long as monitoring is required, probably up to 2018.
The purpose of groundwater monitoring is to have an overview of groundwater and pore pressure levels along the route, with respect to these so that depressions outside natural variations are avoided. Reduction of the levels can cause damage to the environment and harmful effects on buildings. An established monitoring system that provides quality assured data will be an excellent tool to follow up any impact from the underground operations of groundwater and pore pressure to be able to take rapid action against harmful influences. It is important that there is monitoring before, during and for a period after the tunnel operation.

From Farriseidet in Larvik to Porsgrunn a new double track railway shall be constructed, dimensioned for speeds of 250 km/hr. The track will be approx. 23 km long. Large parts of the stretch will be in rock tunnels.Larvik.New line starts East of Farriseidet, approx. 1,5 km West of Larvik station. After a short open zone the railway enters Martineåsen tunnel (3.7 km) before coming out into the open again by Paulertjønn.From the tunnel exit at Paulertjønn the line goes over Paulertjønn on a bridge and further West towards Vassbotn. On this stretch a bridge must be built over the existing E18, together with an animal crossing. At Vassbotn the line will pass over Hallevannet on a 426 m long bridge.At Hobekk a bridge must be built over the existing E18 before it passes over Tjønnemyr on an embankment and carries on further West. Before the line reaches Solum two smaller tunnels must be built; Askeklova (90 m) and Hovås (170 m).The line continues just South of Solum and in this area the railway is situated high up in the terrain over Solumselva via Solum bridge (180 m). Thereafter the railway turns Northwest and passes the existing E18 just West of the curret weighbridge. The railway then runs over an embankment over Skillingsmyr before it enters Skillingsmyr tunnel (3,9 km). The County border is situated approx. 500 m into the tunnel.Porsgrunn.After the long Skillingsmyr tunnel the line comes out by Gunnarsrød. Here the line runs in the open in a rock cutting and runs through the terrain before going over Gunnarsrød bridge (62 m).After Gunnarsrød bridge the line goes straight into Ønnsåsen tunnel (590 m), and comes out in a new short open zone by Ønna. This open zone is 400 m long and passes Ønnadalen on Ønna bridge (220 m).After Ønna bridge the line goes directly into Storberget tunnel (4,7 km). Storberget tunnel comes out at Herregårdsbekken and crosses under Fv30.At Herregårdsbekken the line goes over Herregårdsbekken bridge (35m) and into Eidanger tunnel (2,1 km). Eidanger tunnel comes out into the open by the old Norcem quarry. Here the route is situated low in respect to the existing terrain. The line then continues below the existing Norcem tracks that shall be moved approx. 40 m to the East. Thereafter the double track carries on for approx. 300 m before it turns into a single track in towards Porsgrunn.
