Monitoring of test fields for thin layer capping in the fjords of Grenland 2012-2013

The objective of this project is to continue monitoring of the 6 established test fields for thin layer capping in the fjords of Grenland. The contract period is 2012-2013. The aim of further monitoring is to evaluate the capping effects on the degree of chemical leaching from the sediments, the level of dioxins in biota and the rate of re-colonization.
The project comprises of two parts, where part A involves examinations of chemical flux of dioxins and furans (PCDD/F as TEQ) from the test fields. Part B involves examinations of chemical intake of dioxins and furans (PCDD/F as TEQ) in biota, physical effects on benthic fauna, including species diversity and number of individuals as well as ecological succession after capping; see table 1.
The results from the monitoring program shall be compared with results from the Opticap project, carried out in the period 2009-2011, in such a way that potential tendencies can be identified.
