Nordland County has chosen to own its own passenger vessels, 13 in total, which are hired out under contract to relevant shipping companies. The vessels are owned by Fylkesbåtene as. Six of the vessels are of the same type built by GS Marine.
This procurement aims to procure new gears and manoeuvring systems for five of these vessels. This applies to: MS Femris
MS Sanna, MS Skarstind, MS Stadda and MS Nesøy. A total of ten gears will be procured, as the Faroe Islands are equipped with two engines each. The vessels operate along the coast of northern Norway on year-round routes. The vessels operate over relatively short distances, sometimes with demanding berthing conditions that require a lot of engine, gear and propulsion machinery.

Nordland County has faced significant challenges related to the current gear system on its boats. The gears have not been of the quality required to function in the waters in which the vessels are intended to operate, resulting in several breakdowns and significant additional costs.

Nordland County therefore wants to replace the gear system on its vessels in connection with the transition to new operating contracts. This means that not all gears will be purchased at the same time, and that no gears will be purchased in cases where the vessels may be phased out before a new operating contract is started.

The contracting authority expects that the delivery will take place within a 4-year period. This is related to the contractual relationship between the operator in question and the contracting authority.
As mentioned, the vessels operate on a year-round basis. The connections are of varying lengths and sometimes challenging. As a starting point, an average of about 3500 operating hours per year can be assumed.
