The Agency for Urban Environment manages communal areas such as streets, squares, parks, recreational areas, sports facilities, 'Marka' (uncultivated land), and the inner Oslo Fjord. The Agency for Urban Environment is also responsible for air, noise, water, and soil. The Agency's goal is to make Oslo a safe, beautiful, environmentally friendly and active city. Along the quays close to the city centre in Oslo, the seabed is littered by larger objects, plastic packaging and lost fishing gear such as old fishing nets and fish/lobster pots. Litter is a threat to the environment by spreading pollutants and microplastics to the Fjord. Lost fishing gear represents a major threat to nature, as they continue to catch fish on the seabed for years after they are lost.
