Risavika has a central location to the North Sea. The harbour is an important supply base for the energy industry at sea, and is Vestlandet's largest goods harbour. There are also scheduled ferries to Denmark and Bergen from Risavika.
The activity is increasing, and there is a need for more quay capacity. A harbour development is now being considered in the south eastern area in Risavika. These will be quays that are available for everyone, and are not to be developed for specific customer needs.
The area will not be operated alone by a particular terminal company. It will be facilitated as a project quay for goods and supplies.
