Kulturhuset Danckert Krohn (the Danckert Krohn Arts Centre) was erected in 1789 and became listed in 1927. The building has been owned by the municipality since 1971, but the land is owned by the Danckert Krohn Foundation.
The building is located within the fire zone area in central Bergen with particular requirements for fire proofing also throughout the entire construction period. Both the building and barracks must have wireless fire alarm systems with direct connection to the fire service, and be operative at all times. Barracks placed on the gravel track to the north/west.

The building will be completely restored internally and externally with among other things energy saving measures, Universal Design adaptations and completely new technical installations with the exception of the central building 1st floor, requiring minimal interventions or changes.

Parts of the building's north wing have extensive subsidence. The wing will be jacked up and a new concrete crawl space will be established as a new support for the building. Parts of the south wall in the south wing also have significant local subsidence that must be jacked up to get sufficient height in the ventilation room in the attic.

The building is mostly stripped internally in relation to performed preparatory work both in the ground and in the building structures. The majority of the supporting structures that were established during the major reconstruction of the Second floor in 1970 have been retained to secure the old roof structures. These will not be part of the future supporting structures. The entire Second floor will have a new floor plan, and will be developed according to current standard requirements and in accordance with current regulatory requirements. The room solution in the side wings on the First floor will be retained, and will as far as possible be upgraded in accordance with TEK 17 and requirements for permanent workplaces.

The side building will be demolished in its entirety, and rebuilt as a somewhat smaller version.
Repair work must be carried out on existing windows, suspended ceilings, cladding, etc.
The old exterior doors that will be retained will be restored at Bergen Municipality's own carpentry workshop.
The existing pipelines in the ground including the pipelines in/out of the Foundation's building on the east side of the building must be replaced as they are in poor condition. The existing pipelines are relatively deep due to the connection points being at the basement level. New water supply to sprinkler must be established. The connection point for this is out in Danckert Krohns gate.

Surface water must be handled on the ground, therefore rain beds must be established on both the east and west sides of the building, as well as inside the horseshoe.
Heating is planned as water-borne heat, and the heat source will be rock heat. Four holes will be drilled on the south and east side of the building.
The entire building must have a ‘roof over roof’ before roofs, doors and windows are dismantled, to minimize the risk of new moisture entering the structures. Ventilation units are intended to be lifted in through the roof and wind and weather must be taken into account during this operation.

The cafe will be in operation throughout the entire construction period, and the necessary security measures must be planned and implemented. In the period when the jacking work for the north wing is in progress, possibly also when the concrete work is to be carried out, an entrance must be established to the café from the East Side with the necessary Universal Design measures. It is important to have good dialogue with and information to Bymisjonen, which is responsible for the operation of the café. Likewise with the Danckert Krohn Foundation, the owner of the building on the east side of the building.

Laws and regulations that set requirements for the selected solutions are:
The Cultural Memorial Act (ML), Pbl, AML, and TEK17 as long as it is possible to do within KML's limits and guidelines.
Guidelines for land are set by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage (RA) and for the building County Conservationist. In this project it will be crucial to work closely with the conservation authorities, also for the executing contractor. The Cultural Heritage Management Office is also in the project but as an advisor and not an authority.
