Horten kommune

Bakkenteigen kulturhus was built when it was decided that Høgskolen i Vestfold [Vestfold University College] (now Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge, USN [the University of South-Eastern Norway]) would be located in Horten kommune [Horten Municipality]. The building is owned by Statsbygg [the Directorate of Public Construction and Property] and Horten kommune [Horten Municipality] operates the cultural centre as part of its business.
The cultural centres has been in permanent and continual operation since the opening in 1991 and houses the municipality's largest hall and stage. The cultural house is a central arena for dissemination of culture and performance of different types of stage-art and reaches a broad target group. In addition to a more commercial program, the centre is a permanent venue for the National Norwegian Touring Theatre and The Royal Norwegian Navy Band and is also the home-field for children/youth and adults in the voluntary culture sector (dance, corps, song and theatre). Performances under the auspices of DKS and DKSS are also performed here.
USN rents the hall for teaching and other types of events.
The public capacity is currently 450.
