The assignment includes further development of algorithms for generating timetable models for mixed traffic on the Norwegian railway network by using mathematical optimization, and a working prototype for a tool that is based on these algorithms and that can be used by the Norwegian Railway Directorate in their strategic planning.
The tool and the algorithms must be able to handle different goals for optimality, such as running time, fixed intervals, reliability and number of trains, as well as different versions of the infrastructure and different requirements for the train services.
