The master plan for UiO's properties states that the aim of the property development and management at UiO is to ensure that the university has the areas it needs to reach our goals and carry out our activities in a good way. A modern learning environment is central. Renovation of the three tower blocks at upper Blindern has been a central part of improving the learning and working environment. Both Niels Treschows hus and Niels Henrik Abels hus have been completed. Only Eilert Sundts hus is now left out of the prioritised renovations in the master plan 2015 for Upper Blindern.

Eilert Sundts hus B is used by the Faculty of Social Sciences (SV) and was constructed in 1967, Some of the building has not been renovated since it was built and is very worn down. There are a total of 150 reading room places for master students on the affected floors. The reading rooms, like the rest of the building, also have bad ventilation and are draughty. As there are many people in the same rooms, this is extra noticeable. The renovation will give the institute and faculty a chance to offer its employees infrastructure that builds on the unit's professional ambitions, as well as ensure that employees and students have a good, functional working environment where well-being, aesthetic quality and modern HSE requirements are taken care of. The renovation will give better climate control and thereby give a basis for energy savings and contribute to UiO reaching its environmental goals. Modern plan solutions will contribute to making the area more efficient.
