The Electron Microscopy Laboratory at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences shall purchase a new FESEM.
The electron microscopy shall primarily be a versatile instrument for imaging biological samples. High demands on automation for imaging methods of serial ultrathin sections mounted on standard TEM grids or solid conductive substrates such as coated glass slides or silicon wafers are required.
In addition, the FESEM shall be used for imaging of a wide range of geological, museum, and metallic sample materials. FESEM shall be equipped with detectors that fit the tasks.

The user group has a wide background. The microscopes are used in teaching at both bachelor and master level of several disciplines within natural science. The user group in research is from a wide range including geology, biology, physics, chemistry, medicine and odontology. With this purchase, the department wants to offer corelative light and electron microscopy on the highest scientific level.
