As a part of the internal lighting system for the Nidaros Cathedral spotlights for archicectural lighting in the cathedral's main room, chapels on the ground level and for the chapel house shall be procured.
Fear of damages and accidents related to temporary lighting systems outside the Nidaros Cathedral's control is currently great.
The Nidaros Cathedral is registered as an automatically listed cultural heritage in accordance with the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Act. Due to the building's listing status and its cultural monument and symbolic values, there are very restricted requirements for the measures and visual changes that can be made on the building. Stringent demands are made for the size, the brightness and the stability of the mounting devices and the design of fittings, as a lot of the equipment must be placed in great heights above the audience.
The total value of the contract for lighting fittings and control units is approx. 6 500 000 NOK. The contract value for LED and drivers as a part of this contract amounts to approx. 1 200 000 NOK. A detailed description of the delivery is given in the annexes to the contract.

The current lighting in the Nidaros cathedral no longer meets functional requirements and is characterized by lack of functionality. There is a lack of lighting that highlights the architecture that also can be used in connection with various concerts and events.

This applies particularly to TV transmissions. Rigging for lighting these transmissions are very expensive and time consuming as the current lighting is in general of very poor quality. This rigging also results in considerable wear to the building's interior.

The Nidaros Cathedral is registered as an automatically listed cultural heritage. The building represents great symbolic values for the Norwegian state and it has the status as a national shrine for the Church of Norway. Due to the building's listing status and its cultural monument and symbolic values, there are very restricted requirements for the measures and visual changes that are allowed on the building. This result in restricted mounting opportunities for the lighting system, in addition to a requirement for hiding as much as possible of the lighting fittings from the cathedral's main room. Stringent demands are made for the size, the brightness and the stability of the mounting devices and the design of fittings, as a lot of the equipment must be placed in great heights above the audience.

The measurements for a new lighting system in the Nidaros Cathedral is reffering to the feasability study prepared by Civil Architect MNAL Lighting Designer PLDA and sound designer PLDA Erik Selmer on behalf of the Nidaros chatedral — the Renovation department in 2014:

The current project is basically based on the feasability study.
The total value of the entire lighting project is approx. 20 000 000 NOK.
A lighting designer, a consultant engineer for electrical installations and an electrician company for planning and executing work have been appointed.
The total value of the contract for lighting fittings and control units is approx. 6 500 000 NOK. The contract value for LED and drivers as a part of this contract amounts to approx. 1 200 000 NOK. The contract therefore requires a publication of call for tenders in the EEA and follows the procedures and deadlines for publication in TED.
