Spiralen is a unique tunnel located in Drammen. The tunnel was constructed in the period from 1953 to 1961. The tunnel has a length of 1,650 m and the height from ground to roof is approx. 160 m. The tunnel has a straight entrance zone before it continues in 6.5 circles with a radius of 35 m up to Spiraltoppen. It has a varying cross section, with limitations in relation to height and width.
The tunnel's total design will be challenging and will to some degree mean restrictions for the contractor. Tenderers must therefore get well acquainted with the geometry of the tunnel before submitting tenders.
