There are currently approx. 615 residents in Fosnes, of which ¾ reside at Jøa. With the exception of agriculture and forestry, there is no industry at Jøa. Jøa is therefore dependent on business traffic to the island for tradesman services and other business transport. This transport usually comes from Namsos, the closest urban area.

Package 3: The Skei — Gutvik ferry connection connects the municipality of Leka with the mainland and County Road 17 (Kystriksveien). The municipal centre of Leknes is located on Leka island. The primary industries are fish farming and agriculture.
The seaward approach to the ferry quays and the placement of the ferry quays set stringent requirements for ferry size and manoeuvring. The ferries must i.a. Undertake a U-turn toward the ferry quays with limited space in the seaward approach.
The connection is currently an emergency connection with overnighting at Leka. A fire engine and ambulance are stationed at Leka.
