Import of seed potatoes to Norway is illegal due to plant health considerations. As a result, the Norwegian seed potato crop is the basis for all potato farming in Norway. Production of seed potatoes is regulated through the law on seed potatoes, 2.7.1996, nº 1447. In accordance with the law, Mattilsynet [the Norwegian Food Safety Authority] is responsible to implement laboratory analysis to ensure that the crops satisfy the terms for approval. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority will enter into a framework agreement for laboratory analysis of Norwegian seed potatoes.
