Bamble lower secondary school, sports hall and swimming pool

Changes in the composition of the population means that the frameworks for running schools are tight and, as a consequence, parts of the education and subjects on offer differ for the various secondary classes. In addition to this, most of the secondary schools' buildings that are in operation are old and there is a need to upgrade and catch up with maintenance at a considerable financial cost. There is, therefore, a need to construct a new school that will house the secondary school years in one place, in Grasmyr. In connection with the new lower secondary school, Bamble kommune wants to establish a swimming facility and sports hall. There will also be new infrastructure within the developed area.

The municipal council decided on 16.6.16 to construct a new secondary school, including a sports hall and swimming pool and start a preliminary project from autumn 2016. The decision also included a requirement to review premises for adult education and the refugee service. The preliminary project concluded that a new school building should be constructed at Grasmyr, next to Bamble sixth form college. The school is to be dimensioned for 540 - 600 pupils and the project includes a school of the arts, a basic hall, a new sports hall and a swimming pool. A decision has not yet been made as to what degree the adult education /refugee service will co-use/cooperate with Bamble sixth form college. On 14.12.2017 the municipal council decided to continue with the project to the execution phase in an interaction /development contract.
