Volda quay must be replaced with a new quay. In addition to damage on the ferry quay, the ferry traffic also undermining the E39 Sjøgata, which is damaging to the road.
A decision has been made to construct a new, larger quay, with the possibility of a mooring quay for ferries on the outside of the ferry quay. The new ferry quay will be located approx. 5 m from the land abutment on the old quay, it will be 108 m long (effective length approx. 75 m) and founded on drilled steel pipe pillars, with a 12 x 18 m ferry quay bridge.
The old quay construction, existing WC, and waiting room are to be demolished. This is to be done after the new quay has been taken into use. The E39 must be altered in this period and traffic must be directed past the construction pit.
The existing sea filling in the area is steep. The plan is to add filling to the existing filling and secure it from being washed away with pitching in the area.
A new foot/cycle path is to established parallel to the sea and a new green area is to be developed behind the old quay, there will be some minor adjustments to the queuing lanes. A new waiting room with WC is to be constructed.
The current ferry traffic shall run as normal during the entire construction period.
