NIFES is looking for an FTIR microscopy system that supports several automatized steps for an effective and highly quantitative workflow with full characterization of plastic of small particle sizes down to below 10 µm, but also suited for larger particles up to several mm. Attenuated total reflection (ATR)-, and transmission-µFTIR must be supported. The system must be equipped with an 128 x 128 focal plane array of detectors. An automatic motorized stage including z-stepper, practical data handling and storage allowing data acquisition over a ≥ 6 mm diameter filter are necessary. The purpose is quantification and characterization of all microplastic particles on filters, extracted from tissue, primarily seafood species, or environmental samples, with high throughput. Time-efficiency of the data acquisition, while maintaining resolution, is very relevant.
