A historical condition class was given for all significant objects (buildings, railway installations etc.) when the application was submitted to UNESCO's world heritage list. Mannheimen was the only significant object in the Rjukan urban area that got condition class 3 (worst). The aim is to raise the historical condition of all objects, cf. the management plan for world heritage.

As a part of the government's responsibility, in accordance with the world heritage convention, for taking care of this building, a project was established in 2016 with the intention of carrying out the necessary maintenance and preventive measures, as well as returning the facade to its original look. Tinn municipality and KLP forsikring are now coordinating their needs and solutions and this turnkey contract is the first step towards renewed use of the building and securing it as an important part of Norwegian industrial history.
