High Performance Computing Facility for scientific research
This invitation to tender is for the procurement of a Linux cluster (HPC-A1) with a minimum of 45 000 cores, with a high performance interconnect and a fast global storage system for temporary files.
The purpose is to upgrade i.e. in essence replace the existing national HPC facilities. The current infrastructure consists of 4 HPC facilities located in the universities in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. It has been decided to reduce this number to 2 facilities with 1 being located at the University in Tromsø (called HPC-A1), and the other (called HPC-B1) being located at a location to be decided, and procured at a later date.
The HPC-facilities are to be all-purpose, and not tailored towards any specific field or competency.
The planned installation date is 1.9.2016 for HPC-A1. The main goal in the design of the proposed solution, and the criteria for the successful tenderer, is to maximize science production over Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
