A decision has been made that the veterinary training and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute shall move from Adamstuen in Oslo and be jointly located at NMBU in Ås as a result of the merger of the Veterinary University College and the University for the Environment and Life Sciences to Norwegian University of Life Sciences NMBU. The Ministry of Education and Research has given The Directorate of Public Construction and Property the assignment of implementing the construction project.The Directorate of Public Construction and Property has worked on this project for several years, and the construction of the 63 000 m2 large veterinary building for veterinary training and The Norwegian Veterinary Institute has now begun. The plans for the project are being prepared in close consultation with the users. This is the largest ever complete development in the university and university college sector in Norway. The total gross area of the new buildings is 74 800 m2.In the new veterinary building, there will also be traditional teaching premises, offices, a library and canteen, also special areas such as laboratories, animal stables, animal hospital, aquariums etc. will be established. Safeguarding infection control concerns in relation to the environment and internal work environment requires comprehensive and advanced technical installations. In addition, good constructional solutions are required to separate areas where infectious materials are handled and other areas.According to the plan, the project should be finished in 2019.Hand-knocked bricks shall be delivered for Campus Ås in accordance with the described geometry and materials. The bricks shall be developed in cooperation with the builder and architect. The bricks shall have a varied texture and varied colours. The brick shall, both as regards the colour, burning and texture, be designed so that each brick is unique. Repeating patterns in the texture or colour will not be accepted. The bricks by internal and external corners shall be delivered to the construction site ready fermented from the factory. The fermentation shall be sawn after the brick has been burnt. Fermentation shall be carried out for positive and negative angles of 45 degrees in the plan projection for the ready assembled brick. The brick's setting angle must be calculated. This applies to both the facade covering and the top bricks for the cornices. Each brick shall be delivered with two holes suitable for assembly by screws.
