Renovation of E18 Fosskoll tunnel

The Fosskoll tunnel on the E18 in Lier municipality shall be renovated, as well as upgraded in accordance with the tunnel safety regulations. The works are divided into two contracts with the first contract comprising traffic management. The traffic management contract has started and will be finished in the middle of October this year.
This contract, ‘The Main Contract’, concerns rehabilitation and upgrading of all three lanes in the Fosskoll tunnel, as well as some works outside of the tunnel.
The works in the tunnel comprise the laying of new W&S/drains and manholes in all of the lanes, complete new systematic rock support in the form of bolts and shotcrete in a lane and sporadic new securing in 2 lanes. Installing of VF protection on the hump in the crawling lane, demolition and removal of walls and ceiling elements in a lane, installing of new wall elements with PE foam in 2 lanes. Casting of new concrete guardrails in the crawling lane, as well as new footpath in the main lanes. 2 walls shall be cast in escape tunnels. There is also extensive electrical works with new conduits, OPI channels, cable shafts, cable ladders, lights, cameras, emergency kiosks, signs etc.
Outside of the tunnels there shall be constructed four breakdown areas, two technical buildings, a sedimentation basin. This will also result in some mass haulage and blasting in the open air.
Culvert over the creek must be broadened. The tunnel portals shall be insulated with membrane.
There shall also be set up barriers, signs and sign portals along E18 on both sides of the tunnel. There are also comprehensive electrical works outside of the tunnel.
There will also be a deal of work with securing and diverting of traffic.
