The project consists of the construction of a central reserve on the stretch E18 Tangen — the Aust Agder border in Kragerø kommune. The length of the stretch is approx. 7 km. On approx. 3.1 km of the stretch the road shall be expanded to 3 lanes. 2 of the overtaking areas are for westbound traffic and 1 is for eastbound traffic. The existing road generally has a road width of 10 m. The road width shall be expanded to 12.5 m where there are 2 lanes and 14.5 m where there are 3 lanes. Four culverts shall be demolished, and replaced by three bridges and one culvert. 4 culverts shall also be extended for operational roads and 4 stream culverts.
The works also include concrete central reserve on the entire stretch, upgrading the existing street lights, the construction of a game fence as well as some new surface water installations. Interim roads shall be constructed and existing local roads developed for traffic flow. The works are based on models (in accordance with manual V770, former 138).
