On 2 February 2015 Mofjellbekken west was critically damaged in a landslide.
An expert group in bridges/geotechniques assessed the damage and measures to be taken under the management of Statens vegvesen Vegdirektoratet and the group submitted its report dated 9.2.2015. Based on the conclusions in the report, a decision was made to demolish the entire bridge slab as well as the pillars and foundations on Mofjellbekken bridge west, with the exception of the pillar in axis 2 and both land abutments, which were to be kept. The demolition work was carried out from February, with completion in May 2015.
Comprehensive levelling of the landslide area at Skjeggestad was carried out at the same time as the demolition work and the landslide area was stabilised with lime/cement piles. Two of the foundations on the parallel bridge for the northbound lane on the E18 Mofjellbekken bridge east (axis 4 and axis 5) were refounded on jet piles under concrete foundations, before the traffic was allowed to cross the bridge again.
Mofjellbekken bridge west shall be rebuilt in accordance with the original drawings with some modifications and connected to the existing road on both sides. The project will be carried out on the basis of drawings.
The work with the delivery and installation of the steel core piles for the new foundations in axes 3, 4, 5 and 6 has been announced as a separate builder managed contract with Skanska Norway
AS/sub contractor Entreprenørservice AS, in order to reduce the total construction period for the New Mofjellbekken bridge west. It is a prerequisite that the bridge contractor builds on the pile tops. Dimensioning class H9 with a speed limit of 100 km/t.
The tender documentation is for all work up to and including the asphalting and markings.
