A complete HVAC system will be supplied to the new terminal building at Flesland (approximately 60 000 m²) divided into the following systems:
1. Sanitation system
The water supply will be placed in the technical routing zone on level C, in the same pipe trench as warm and cold pipes. A central hot water preparation facility will be established in the technical rooms. Waste water is carried to two central building sewers in an east-west direction. For water filling to aircraft, a central chlorine dosing facility with circulation line via fixed points will be established.
2. Heating and cooling systems
To meet the terminal's heating demand, a connection to an external supplier is presumed.
The main heating and cooling conduits will be carried out as for the ring mains in the technical routing zone.
Shunt groups and exchangers should – to the greatest possible extent – be centralised and placed in technical rooms. The ventilation installations are to be equipped with combined heating and cooling coils, for which the cooling will be dimensioned.
The main principal for heating in large spaces will be water-borne underfloor heating. In the summer the floor warming system will also be used a cooling system. A central exchange arrangement is planned for heating and cooling.
Heating needs in offices and other smaller areas will be met by radiators. High glass façades will have draft protection. Doors, ports and other openings out in the open will be equipped with warm air curtains.
Preheating of tap water will be supplied from own exchanger. A central exchange arrangement is planned for snow-melting systems. Local cooling will mainly be solved with air, but fan convectors will be installed for rooms with extremely dense occupancy or high internal loads. ICT rooms will be equipped with data-room coolers and designated back-up cooling system.
3. Fire extinguishing system
Preparations for bilateral water supply with connection on the north side of the central building. Waterlines will be supplied from the water main in the new joint trench. The sprinklers are dimensioned to provide 100 L/sec, with a minimum capacity of 1 hour. Sprinkler centres and zone valves will be placed in technical rooms in the basement. The east façade will be protected by a deluge system. Wet pipe sprinklers will be established for extinguishing water in the terminal. Fire hoses will be connected to the drinking water mains and shall cover all areas. Rooms that are not suitable for sprinkler, e.g. ICT rooms, shall be protected by gas fire-extinguishing system.
4. Thermal energy production
To meet the terminal's cooling needs, a cooling facility consisting of cooling units and energy storage tanks will be installed. At the same time, excess heat from production will be transferred back into the building. The excess heat will be dumped via dry coolers.
5. Options
Options that have been confirmed are a snow melting system for Goods Receiving and the driveway to Goods Receiving, a booster pump for sprinkler and possibly service and maintenance agreements. Work related to commercial areas could also be included.
6. Other
Labour and thermal energy components might also be included.
