Brønnøy kommune

Brønnøy, Sømna, Vevelstad, Vega and Bindal municipalities have an inter municipal ICT cooperation in accordance with the Municipality Act §27. Brønnøy municipality is the host municipality in the cooperation. Read more about Brønnøy municipality at www.bronnoy.kommune.no
In June 2014, the Brønnøy municipal Country Council decided to start a process to hand over operation and support of the municipality's IT solutions to an external supplier. The municipality's IT department shall in future focus on strategy and orderer expertise, and building of expertise for development and management of the municipality's kernel systems. The municipality's hypothesis is that they will not have their own data processing system or own infrastructure in the future.
This also includes the IT services that Brønnøy municipality currently ensures the integrity of on behalf of the municipalities of Sømna, Vevelstad, Bindal and Vega. This is organised through an inter municipal cooperation in accordance with the Municipality Act §27, where Brønnøy municipality is the host municipality.
In March 2014, Brønnøy municipality agreed to adopt a digitalisation strategy for the period 2014-2017. This states that Brønnøy municipality is in a demanding situation with significant economical challenges, and ever increasing expectations of the municipality's service production from public authorities, inhabitants and other society participants. Technology makes it possible for them to work smarter, better utilise their resources and thereby increase the service quality. This can amongst other things mean more time for the employees to perform nursing care.
The review of the IT function and IT services in Brønnøy municipality over the last year has shown that they have been under prioritised for a long time. The consequence of this is that the municipality has built up a significant "technical debt", meaning a lack of modernisation of their IT systems. This is a hindrance for further development, and the possibility for the municipality to fully utilise technological advances. Brønnøy municipality does not have the resources to do everything they want at the one time, and it is therefore far more important that what they do, they do with high quality - and that the non core assignments are entrusted to external suppliers.
In the coming four years, the municipality shall raise the current IT systems to a modern level and create a competent and robust IT organisation for Brønnøy municipality and the region, in cooperation with an external supplier of infrastructure, operational and support services the IT systems.
