Holmenkollen National Ski Arena is one of many for which the City of Olso's Agency for Urban Development has management responsibility. It is necessary to upgrade the Holmenkollen National Ski Arena so that the arena will be chosen as an arena for future major international competitions and championships and so that it maintains its status as a national arena and tourist destination.Based on the City of Oslo's overarching objectives, a solution with permanent installations has been recommended which will raise the standard of the existing arena and event concept to World Cup level.
The purpose of this procurement is to upgrade the arena in accordance with the objectives established by the city authority and so that major events can be staged in the arena, including the Trial World Biathlon Championships in 2015 and the World Biathlon Championships in 2016. Holmenkollen National Arena, the City of Oslo and the Norwegian Biathlon Association (NSSF) have been awarded the World Championships in March 2016.
