There are 788 nurseries in Oslo, with 35 969 children. Oslo's 15 districts are responsible for the authorization and supervision of all of the nurseries in their respective areas, both private and public. The districts have operational responsibility for the public nurseries in their area. The scope of the acquisition is for the public nurseries, with the option for the private nurseries to take advantage of the agreement. 360 of the 788 nurseries public.
For the nurseries to receive the best possible conditions for developing language skills is to learn Norwegian before starting school, nurseries therefor must be good language environments. Children who require additional language support and stimulation must be identified early.
Tools for language mapping shall help the nurseries staff to clarify the linguistic needs of individual children.
