Engineering design U2240 Alvøen School - East wing demolition, extension and renovation

Bergen kommune

Alvøen school has been developed in several stages, with the main building which was built in the period 1952-1955, classroom building from 1992, primary school building / SFO in 1997, the gym building and vollyball hall 2005 pavilions from 2007.
Based on an overall assessment of the condition and functionality, it has been decided to demolish the east wing of Alvøen school and replace it with a new building. It is approved to simultaneously build new permanent classrooms to replace pavilions which can then be removed.
The school shall be designed for a nominal capacity of 500 students. Learning areas must be flexible and must be adaptable to changes in the number of students, diverse ways of working, new organization and varying group sizes. It shall seek solutions in line with the school use plan within the approved budget limits. In addition to meeting enterprise objectives the development will be managed in accordance with the conditions laid down in city council decision on passive / low energy and regulatory requirements of universal design. Lifetime Cost estimates (LCC) shall be applied in selecting between alternative solutions.
Other conditions that will be improved at a school facility:
Adaptation of new buildings to of the roof of the centre wing of the administration building, possibly renovation of the roof of the centre wing, improving student toilets, replacing ventilation system, various electrical equipment.
The entrance to the school will be upgraded.
Variations related to work places and toilets for staff.
Building program is under preparation. Recommended area programme for new buildings is attached.
Project costs are estimated to be 50 000 000 NOK.
There is a separate project for new road and parking for the school.
